Margate’s music scene is getting a serious upgrade.

The Drill Shed, a new 750-capacity music venue in Cliftonville, launched this month at The Lido site with a double headline show from drum and bass pioneers LTJ Bukem and Roni Size.

The venue has been created by the team behind Margate Soul Weekender and Olby’s Soul Café, working alongside promoter Something Goes Right, and aims to bring nationally significant touring acts, club nights and cultural events to Margate.

Filling the Gap Between Small Venues and Arenas

The organisers say the new venue has been developed to meet growing demand for mid-scale music venues outside London.

The Drill Shed is designed to sit between grassroots music rooms and major arenas offering artists and promoters a professionally equipped venue with enough scale to host bigger touring acts, club culture events and special one-off performances.

The space has been built with flexibility in mind and can host:

• Live concerts
• DJ-led club nights
• Festivals and showcases
• Rehearsals and brand activations
• Cultural events and community gatherings

With high-spec production infrastructure, adaptable staging and a strong operational setup, organisers say the venue is designed to support both artists and promoters looking to stage ambitious shows in Margate.

Supporting Margate’s Music Community

Alongside headline shows, Drill Shed Margate says it plans to prioritise community-led programming and local talent development.

Future events will include genre residencies, collaborations with festivals and record labels, and community takeovers.

Organisers also say the venue aims to actively support Black and Brown-led culture, alternative music movements and underrepresented voices, while maintaining an accessible and welcoming space for diverse audiences.
