If you're serious about vintage, Margate is worth a dedicated trip. The town has an unusually high concentration of good independent dealers, which is partly the art school effect and partly the fact that interesting people have been washing up here for decades and leaving things behind. The Old Town in particular has a cluster of shops within easy walking distance, and the quality is consistently higher than you'd expect for the prices.
