Margate Film Festival returns in 2024 for its fifth edition between 27 Nov - 1 Dec, showcasing a range of local and international films enriched by live performance, Q&As and public installations. This volunteer-led, not-for-profit festival explores cultural politics, feminism, music, creativity, and compassion in our ever-evolving seaside town of Margate, says Kate Williamson.
Opening Night - Chuck Chuck Baby + Q&A
Kicking off Margate Film Festival on Wednesday 27 November at 8pm is the quirky musical romance "Chuck Chuck Baby", written and directed by Margate-based filmmaker Janis Pugh. Audiences will have the chance to experience this offbeat love story on the big screen, followed by a Q&A session with the director herself.

Shorts: FilmPride/Queer Shorts + Q&A
On Thursday 28 November 28th at 5.30pm, Margate Film Festival is proud to present a special program of "Queer Shorts" in partnership with Brighton based FilmPride and Margate Pride. This curated selection of short films celebrates LGBTQ+ stories and perspectives.

Hakeem + Q&A (+ After-Party at Albion Rooms)
Friday 29 November at 8pm sees the festival screening "Hakeem", a documentary following the musical journey of Eastender Hak Baker. Audiences will have the chance to hear directly from Hak Baker himself during a post-film Q&A session. The evening doesn't end there, as the festivities continue with an after-party at the iconic Albion Rooms.

Smoke Sauna Sisterhood
On Saturday 30 November, at 1pm, lovers of Haeckel's community sauna should definitely catch "Smoke Sauna Sisterhood", an intimate documentary that delves into the experiences and solidarity of women. This powerful film offers a poignant and empowering look at the power of these spaces.

Haxan - Story of Witchcraft + Live Score
Closing out the festival on Saturday 30 November at 8pm is a special screening of the 100-year-old classic "Haxan: Story of Witchcraft". This unique cinematic experience will feature a live score performed by local Margate band AUTOHAUs, bringing an immersive and atmospheric new lease of life to this horror-documentary hybrid.
